SQL Server Number verses Versions

 

Looking at a SQL server Management Studio there is a version number but it does not match the SQL release, here is a short table to map them.

SQL Server 2008 R2 Original 10.50.1600.1
With SP1 10.50.2500

SQL Server 2008 Original 10.00.1600.22

SP2    10.00.4000
SP3    10.00.5500

SQL Server 2005 Original 9.00.1399.06
